NEWS FROM AUTOPILOT

TU-Automotive Europe is the continent’s biggest conference and exhibition showcasing the future of the connected car and automobile mobility, with over one thousand attendees hailing from automobile manufacturers, suppliers, start-ups, investors, software developers and more.

The two-day international conference for established and emerging industry players took place in Munich on 6 – 7 November 2017. It focused on technologies to support and accelerate the deployment of automated driving.

Representing the AUTOPILOT consortium, Benedikt van den Boom (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile – FIA) presented the evaluation approach on user and societal acceptance of IoT-driven Autonomous Driving to around 40 attendees, under the title “What does society think?”.

Based on an iterative and exploratory process, he pointed out that users of the AUTOPILOT services in the Pilot Sites need to be seen as co-designers of truly new and innovative solutions.

This research direction will be pursued from 2018 onwards on all AUTOPILOT test sites. The discussion after the presentation focused on preliminary hypotheses of the project and the question, how can AUTOPILOT help define what society wants from automated driving.
